by 卡希拉

Dear Friends of iamHeart,

Many of us feel the strain of our times: a sense that dharma, the living alignment between truth, heart and action, is weakening.

Violence, confusion and numbing influences pull attention away from what is sacred. In such a moment, it is natural to ask: how do we find the way forward?

Hazrat Inayat Khan’s life offers a profound clue.

Hazrat Inayat Khan(HIK)

It must have been a great inner breakthrough for Murshid to realize, not as an idea, but as lived truth—that all religions arise from one source.

When one is born into a single tradition, nourished for decades by its mysteries, rituals, scriptures, and prophecies, it becomes a culture. Then culture (from cultivation), forms us, shelters us, and gives meaning. Every human being knows this shaping power, to a greater or lesser degree.

Murshid saw that all great religions cultivate essential human qualities through forms given by a particular master or prophet. Over time, however, those forms are shaped by history, power, and the evolving human spirit. What diverges are the outer expressions; what remains is the one, inner source.

“The Universal Worship signifies our adherence and our respect to all different teachers, different religions, and different scriptures… It is a training of our mind to tolerate the religions of different people… A person with a just mind will admit that the followers of the great teachers have not followed the belief or the teachings of the great ones thoroughly.” — Hazrat Inayat Khan

——Hazrat Inayat Khan

Before leaving for India in 1926, Murshid pointed the way forward by evolving the Universal Worship into the Worship of the Heart.

This teaching feels especially urgent now, in a world where violence is increasingly fueled by numbing forces that deaden sensitivity and conscience.

The Worship of the Heart is not a belief but a practice of contemplation, lived in three simple yet profound ways:

✨✨ First, to contemplate the Divine in every person we encounter, and therefore to be careful in our thought, speech, and action. The human personality is delicate. A living heart is sensitive because love is alive within it—and love is God.

When the heart loses sensitivity, the Divine Spirit is buried beneath self-absorption. To notice and honor another’s feeling is the first essential moral of the Heart.

✨✨ Second, to extend this care and contemplate those who are not immediately present. It is easy to feel for the one before us; it is greater to feel for the one who is absent, distant, or unseen.

To speak well of another in their absence, to hold compassion for those far away—this widens the heart beyond convenience.

✨✨ Third, to contemplate our own heart and find in our own feeling the feeling of God. Every impulse of love that rises in the heart is a divine spark, a direction given from within. Our task is to protect and nourish that spark until it becomes a flame that illuminates our life.

This inner work cannot be rushed. Murshid reminds us that assimilation is essential.

Truth must be digested by the spirit through contemplation and lived practice. When we rush to debate, justify, or fit teachings into our existing opinions, we disturb the inner fire that allows wisdom to become embodied.

Our stated goal is Love, Harmony, and Beauty. The question before us now is not whether we affirm this ideal, but how we live it, especially when outer forms falter and the world feels fractured.

Perhaps the way forward is to return again and again to the living heart; to let love refine our perceptions; and to allow the divine spark within the heart to guide our actions toward others.

We invite you to stay connected to one another, and to keep returning to your iamHeart community for support in the new year to keep living from your beautiful hearts. The world needs you and so do we.

With love and blessings,
